Paio di antichi orecchini in oro giallo con smalti policromi, perle e rubini. Inghilterra, 1850 c.a. 5.8 cm
Almost no earrings were worn in the 1840s as the hair completely covered the ears, those few wich were worn were usually long. They gradually regained favour in the 1850's when the hair started to be brushed away from the ears.
Negli anni intono al 1840 gli orecchini scomparvero dalle parure delle Signore dato che le acconciature coprivano quasi completamente le orecchie. Gli orecchini riapparvero intorno al 1850 aumentando sempre di più la loro lunghezza dato che le pettinature lasciavano scoperti lobi.
